Have questions about volunteering? Read these FAQs:

Q: What do volunteers help with?

A: Signing kids in/out, escorting kids to the restroom and helping the instructor as needed.

Q: Do I need a background check to volunteer? Where/How do I obtain this?

A: Yes! All volunteers in the Northshore School District are required to have a Level 1 background check done.  It is recommended to complete this task at least a week prior to the date you’d like to volunteer. Click the link below to complete the background check.

Q: What is the commitment for the volunteer?

A: Volunteers are expected to arrive at least 5-10 minutes prior to the beginning of the program start time, and can leave once all students are safely picked up by their approved contact. All programs run for 1 hour, once a week.

Q: What are the perks of volunteering?

A: There are lots! First, if your family volunteers for ALL of the session, you can receive 50% off of one student’s tuition for the program! Other perks include (but not limited to) being an involved parent, getting to know a variety of kids in your student’s community, experiencing what the students are learning, and in some classes, getting your cardio in if you choose to participate!

Q: Can several different family members help?

A: Yes! If one family has several adult family members (ex. Grandparents) who would like to help fulfill the volunteer responsibilities, they just need to make sure they have a required Level 1 background check done at least a week prior to their first shift. Click the link below to complete the background check.

Q: Can I bring my younger children with me to volunteer?

A: If there are not other childcare options, a younger sibling can come with the volunteer as long as they are not a distraction from the volunteer tasks and based on approval from the vendor providing the program.

Q: How do I get a scholarship for a program?

A: Please continue reading below for our Scholarship Policy and Google Doc Request form. Scholarship questions can be directed to scholarships@wellingtonpta.org

Q: Who runs the Programs Committee and how do I get involved?

A: Parent volunteers! Currently, the committee is a two woman show who works closely with the vendors and is supported by our PTA Presidents and our Office Manager, Virginia. It is a fun and rewarding position and always happy to add more committee members! Please contact president@wellingtonpta.org to ask more questions and get involved.

Q: Am I required to find my own replacement if I am unable to make it to my volunteer shift?

A: Yes, we request that you first try to find your own replacement. But please do let the program committee know so we can make sure we have the correct account for who is responsible. We can help communicate with the vendor as well.

Scholarships:

Wellington Elementary welcomes families in any financial situation to apply for a scholarship; we want all of our students to be able participate in Before & After School programming. If your family is experiencing a financial hardship, you are welcome to apply for a scholarship to cover the cost of one program per student per session.

As of December 18, 2024, all PTA Scholarship Funds for the Winter Before & After School Program have been distributed; therefore we are unable to grant any further requests for scholarships for this session and the application period is now considered closed.

Include the student’s name, grade and the program they are requesting. If you are interested in more than one program, please prioritize which program would be most helpful for your family.

  • Limited funds are available, we encourage you to apply ASAP.
  • Requesting a scholarship does not guarantee a place in your program of choice.
  • If your scholarship is approved, you will receive a code to enter into the 6crickets website; please do not purchase a spot in a session until you have this code in hand because we cannot reimburse individuals.
  • The deadline to request a scholarship is one week after open enrollment begins.
  • Each session has been allocated a funding cap; once the cap is reached the scholarships will be "turned off" and further requests will be denied.
  • If you are not awarded a scholarship for one session, please apply for the following session.
  • If you do not receive a scholarship, please consider volunteering; individuals who volunteer for all classes of a single program will receive 50% off the cost of tuition.
  • Scholarship funds spent will be reviewed during quarterly member updates at PTA General Meetings.
  • Special exceptions will be made for those in extenuating circumstances.

If you have further questions, please email scholarships@wellingtonpta.org.
